Beatrice Mitsue Ugai, 94, passed away Dec. 14, 2016, at home surrounded by family.
Beatrice was born on Nov. 23, 1922, to Harry and Yuki Nakada in Mitchell. She attended school at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and obtained a bachelor's degree. Then, Beatrice moved to Chicago to work as a graphic designer. She moved to North Platte, then to Wyoming to attend the university in Laramie, and graduated with her teaching credentials and master's degree. Beatrice began teaching art at the junior high school in North Platte. It was there in North Platte that she raised her family and lived for many years.
In 2014, she moved to Durango, Colorado, to be closer to family.
Art was a passion in her life. She knitted, was active in church in North Platte at the Episcopal Church of Our Savior, was an avid bowler and excellent bridge player.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother and sister, Pershing Nakada and Alice Ugai.
She is survived by her sons, Norman R. (Kay) Ugai, Richard J. (Jeanette) Ugai and Mark (Barbara) Ugai; sister, Maudie Noma; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
