Life Milestones for Ben Lewis Trueblood

Ben joined his loved ones in heaven on Saturday, January 25th, 2025, from his home, at the age of 72.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Jack G. and Virginia L. (Sanders) Trueblood, and his mother-in-law, Flora Morey.

Ben was born in Gordon, Nebraska, on August 13th, 1952.  As a youth, he enjoyed being outdoors.  He loved catching toads and snakes, but most importantly, tormenting his brother and sisters was his favorite pastime.  He attended Gordon High School, where he graduated in 1971.  He began working right after graduation with the phone company.  In 1977, when Monna returned to Gordon from college, they began a forever relationship.  They were married in Gordon on June 17th, 1978.

After their marriage, Ben and Monna moved to Chadron as Ben was transferred.  They lived in Chadron for about a year before Ben was transferred again to North Platte.  It was here where they settled down and started a family, Amy Lee, born May 28th, 1983, and Scott Benjamin, born October 9th, 1985.

Ben retired from the phone company after 31 years of being out in the field.  Throughout the years, he enjoyed hunting everything from dove to deer, fishing, camping, and bowling.  In his bowling leagues, he placed first on a few occasions.  Ben was an avid hunter and excellent marksman.  He was awarded a deer citation from Nebraska Game and Parks Commission in 1968.  He also won many trophies in trap shooting.  He took his son and daughter out hunting, but mostly, he took them fishing since fishing could be done year-round.  He entered many local fishing contests both in the winter and summer with his friends (where they placed often).  He also enjoyed spending time with his friends, either playing cards or just visiting.  Ben loved, cared for, and rescued animals.  Over the years, he had dogs and too many cats to count, but he also took in wild animals, including birds, rabbits, salamanders, turtles, and even an opossum that we named Eddie.  Watching the Huskers and Broncos was one of his favorite activities, but talking (or arguing) about them, he enjoyed even more.

Ben is survived by his wife, Monna Trueblood; son, Scott Trueblood of North Platte, Nebraska; daughter, Amy (Eric) Danielson and granddaughter, Aubrey Danielson of Gilbert, Arizona; brother, Dennis Trueblood of Chandler, Arizona; sisters, Judith (Dan) Keller of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Valerie (Keith) Lehmann of Littleton, Colorado; father-in-law, Hudson (Bud) Morey of Gordon, Nebraska; and numerous nieces and nephews and other extended family.

A graveside memorial and inurnment will occur on Saturday, March 8th, 10:00 AM, at the cemetery in Gordon, Nebraska. Friends are invited to join the family at gravesite and/or for a celebration of Ben's life at the American Legion Club following the service.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 10th, 4:00 PM, at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, 1616 West B Street in North Platte, Nebraska, with a reception at Brothers Tavern to follow.  Casual attire is requested.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that any memorial donations be made to the North Platte Animal Shelter, Trap Neuter Return (TNR) North Platte, or Fur Animal Rescue in North Platte.

Carpenter Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements.
