Betty Jean Shimmin, 96, of Arnold, NE passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at Great Plains Health Hospital.
Jean was born on April 12, 1926 in Fort Morgan, CO the daughter of Walter L. and Alice Mae (Pesch) Stevenson. Her parents then moved the family to Sutherland, NE in 1935. She attended country schools thru the eighth grade and graduated from high school in North Platte in 1944. She married Roy Allen Shimmin on August 13, 1947 at the Presbyterian Church in North Platte, and together they had six children, Douglas, Connie, Michael, Jerri, Sally, and Scott. The family lived on the Shimmin Ranch north of Tryon for all her married life. Jean was a faithful Christian and attended the Methodist Church in Mullen, Free Methodist Church in Ringgold, and the Baptist Church in Arnold in recent years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Allen; sons, Douglas Allen, Michael Frank, and Scott Joseph, daughter, Jerri Jean, 1 brother and 6 sisters.
Those left to celebrate her memory are her daughters, Connie Lynne (Mike) Hernandez of Spring Hill, KS, and Sally Beth (David) Hilderbrant of Arnold; many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Ken Tidyman of Maywood; daughter-in-law, Lori Aldridge of FL; and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at the First Baptist Church, 101 East 7 th Ave. in Arnold with Pastor Irv Jennings officiating. Burial will follow in Miller Cemetery near Tryon. Visitation with the family present will be on Sunday, January 8 th from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte, which has been entrusted with the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the family for future designation.
