Obituary

Caroline Sue Bagley-Douglas, age 83, passed peacefully May 8th, 2026 at her home in North Platte, Nebraska with her family by her side.

Some call her Mommason, some call her Granny, others call her Caroline, was born October 23rd, 1942 into what would become a big family in Mexico, Missouri, to James & Mildred Bagley. They later moved to Houston, Texas where they would call that home until she moved on from the house. She helped the family make ends meet by taking in laundry with her sisters and mother. She was also a governess, helping families with children.

A unity of marriage would bring 4 children while living in Texas. The family then moved to Nebraska where a 5th child was born. She was an amazing mother and loved all that she had and then some. Caroline was always providing for her children and making trips back to Texas to see her siblings as often as possible.

She helped work on the farm they lived on and at the CO-OP in Elsie, Nebraska. Caroline was a supervisor for the Holiday Inn in North Platte for many years until she moved back to Texas for several years. While in Texas again, she was a supervisor for Life Like Products until she retired due to a cancer diagnosis. Caroline then returned back to Nebraska where she remained until her passing.

Most of all, Caroline enjoyed spending time with her family. She took immense pride in her family as was evident on her face when the kids, grandkids and great grandkids all got together. She also enjoyed doing her word searches, sitting on the patio with her neighbors, playing bingo and cards, and camping and fishing—even though she preferred to eat the fish more than she did catching or cleaning it. A big piece of pie or cake would bring a smile to her face, but fruitcake… she loved fruitcake!

Morning coffee was a must. “That is just how you start your day” she would say. Coffee was always on, the door was always open and she was always there to listen. Caroline always said “I Love You” and gave big hugs.

Caroline is survived by sisters, Connie Warren & Patricia (Dewayne) Stiles of Texas; sisters-in-law, Rita Hankins of North Platte, Sonja Wilkening-Lemburg of Maricopa, Arizona and Floyce (Shorty) Bagley of Spring, Texas; oldest son, Clifford Earl of Sutherland, Nebraska; daughters, Karen (Kevin) Petska of North Platte and Cheryl (Andrew) Dillenburg of North Platte; many nieces and nephews as well as her much adored grandchildren, great grandchildren and her wonderful and caring caregivers, Amy and Caroline.

She is preceded in death by middle and youngest sons, Kenneth and Robert Petry; father, James and mother, Mildred; siblings, Betty King, Barbara Ross, James Bagley, Patsy Filder, Loretta Rutherford, infant Jerry Dale Bagley, Larry Bagley and Gary Bagley.

Graveside services will be May 30th @ 11am in the North Platte Cemetery. Family friend Chuck Scripter will be offering prayer and words of comfort. Carpenter Memorial Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.
