Obituary

Daniel “Danny” D. Griffiths, age 69, of North Platte, Nebraska, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at Great Plains Health.

Danny was born August 24, 1956, in North Platte at St. Mary’s Hospital to Robert L. and Betty L. (Smith) Griffiths. From a young age, Danny’s mom brought him up in the way of the Lord, and he accepted Jesus into his heart at a young age. He went on to be baptized, washing away his old self and beginning life anew as a walk with Christ.

Growing up in North Platte, Danny was active in 4-H, making friends and life experiences throughout 10 years of his childhood. He also began learning guitar, joining a band by the time he was in high school. In addition to his band, Danny was active in many extracurricular activities in high school. He participated in track and rodeo and placed in gymnastics, winning 3rd in State in rings and 8th in State in parallel bars. He also raced in the Wild Horse Races down through Wellfleet. After graduating from North Platte High School in 1974, Danny found a passion for racing, a sport that he participated in for many years before stepping back to enjoy it from a distance. To support his passion, Danny began to work in construction. He first helped build the hospital under Dwayne Sivits before moving on to build houses for Haws Plywood. Though he cared little for book learning, he had a sharp mind and a keen intuition which allowed him to rise through the ranks due to the quality of his work. His houses still provide homes for many families today, recognizable by his signature shutters he used in every build.

As a young man of 21, Danny had an unfortunate accident where he was hit by a train. Though he kept the truck and often told the harrowing story, he shifted focus after that incident and began working at Great Plains Health as a Maintenance Technician, staying on for 18 years. During this time, Danny met Cyndi Lombardi through her grandparents and racing. After dating for 6 years, they were wed on July 1, 1995. To this union was born their beloved daughter Brookelyn on June 9, 2004. After the birth of his daughter, Danny switched jobs and began working at the Craft State Office Building. There he worked hard for 22 years, coming in rain or shine, even once during a heart attack! He was a dedicated employee until his passing.

Danny will be remembered for his love of cars, especially muscle cars. He loved doing body work on cars, and could often be found at swap meets looking for car parts, cruise nights, car shows, and the Sandhills Open Road Challenges in Arnold. He worked on cars whenever given the opportunity and his body and upholstery work were indistinguishable from a professional’s. He especially loved painting designs, specializing in flames which he leaves behind on many cars and other projects. He loved work, always thinking up new projects and doing it right (his way) every time. He was a quick-learner with a curious mind, always learning everything about any engine or mechanical device he could get his hands on. While he could be stubborn, such as when he stopped working on his house because it wasn’t going the way he wanted, he was always a reliable man for his friends and family. Though he gave them space sometimes, he always loved his family. He loved going to events for his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He especially loved supporting his daughter in her pursuits, as she was his pride and joy. He now goes to prepare a place for his family and friends in our Heavenly home for their blessed reunion.

Those left to cherish Danny’s memory are his wife Cyndi; daughter Brookelyn and her special friend Kenny Shelbourn who shared a special embrace with Danny; brothers Bob (Roxann) Griffiths of Nashville, TN, and Ron (Theresa) Griffiths of North Platte; sister Connie (Paul) Huebner of North Platte; parents-in-law Dennis and Gaylene Lombardi of North Platte; brothers-in-law Jared (Joelle) Lombardi of Chandler, AZ, and Ken Dyck of Caronport, SK, Canada; 11 nieces and nephews; 17 great-nieces and nephews; and many more family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Betty, sister Carol Dyck, Grandma and Grandpa Smith, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
