Dennis Lee McConnell, 78, passed away on January 19, 2025, at North Platte Care Center after a brief battle with cancer. Dennis was born in Washington, DC on April 26, 1946, to Cecil and Marjorie (Berryman) McConnell. While he was still an infant, the family moved to Denver, Co. He was joined by his younger sister, Kathleen, completing the family circle. While in junior high, they moved to North Platte.  He graduated from North Platte High School in 1964 and was a charter member of the first graduating class from North Platte Junior College in 1967.

On June 14, 1969, he married Evelyn (Olson) McConnell.  Two children blessed their marriage, Michael "Mike" Alan and Melinda "Mindy" Ann, along with beloved grandchildren and great granddaughters.

Dennis began working while he was still in Denver, helping deliver newspapers.  He held several different jobs, including 15 years at Sixth Street Food Stores in North Platte and Lexington. He enjoyed gardening and working in the yard.  He was good at bowling, golfing, and enjoyed fishing with his kids and grandkids.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; several aunts and uncles; nephew, Shane Petska and niece, Amanda "Mandy" Petska.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; sister, Kathleen (Terry) Fletcher of North Platte; son Mike (Stephanie) of North Platte; and daughter, Mindy (Dan) Meyer of Gothenburg; his grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Traye) DeBord, Bailey (Josiah) Gillming, Zach McConnell (PJ Dubbs) and Bryce Estrada (fiancée, Laken Wiese); and the pride and joy of his life, his great granddaughters, Tillie, Echo and Anniah; as well as other nieces, nephews and extended family.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 24, 2025 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with Pastor Kem Reeder officiating.  Burial will follow at North Platte City Cemetery. Visitation with be from noon to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 23, 2025 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with family greeting friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
