Donna Katherine Murphy, 90, of North Platte, Nebraska, passed away at 7:19 p.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2026, surrounded by her loving and devoted family.

She was born December 14, 1935, in Dunning, Nebraska, to Henry and Pauline George. She moved to North Platte, Nebraska, where she met her husband, Gary Murphy. They lived in Denver, Colorado, for some time while Donna attended the University of Denver before returning to North Platte, where they would plant their roots and remain for the rest of their lives. They had three children: Debbie, Kerri, and Mark. They also owned and operated Murphy’s Modern Music for decades.

Donna was an absolute die-hard, red-blooded Husker fanatic. She loved watching the Cornhuskers play football and was a huge enthusiast of the women’s volleyball team. She was also a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church for 71 years and a respected and adored member of her community. She cherished the outdoors, where she enjoyed fishing, camping, boating, and so many other activities. She was known in her family as a “card shark,” and 500 Rummy was her game. She taught everyone in the family how to play over the years, and all the games they played together remain great reminders of how smart, fun, and ornery she was.

She was an avid reader and loved all types of puzzles, including crosswords, word searches, and Sudoku. Both brilliant and beautiful, witty and sincere, she was truly one of a kind. She will be genuinely missed by everyone who had the delight of knowing her.

Donna is survived by her three children: Debbie Beerman, Kerri Murphy, and Mark (Shawn) Murphy; six grandchildren: Jenni (Matt) Nielsen, Connor (Aubrey) Rhoden, Dustin (Laura) Beerman, Kelsea Vernon, Rylee (Bret) Schwaderer, and Chloe (Will) Powers; and nine great-grandchildren: Drew and Hayes Nielsen, Dylan and Casey Rhoden, Colten, Hannah, and Harper Beerman, Ava Schwaderer, and Goldie Powers. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and husband.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 23, 2026, from 12:00-6:00PM at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte. Services will be held be at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in with the Rev Patrick Sipes officiating. Online condolences and live stream of the service will be at carpentermemorial.com.
