Obituary

Dwight "Ike" "Handlebars" Richard Allbery, 76, of North Platte, NE, passed away on November 19, 2013, in Lincoln, NE after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Dwight was born to Lee Roy and Laura Nell Allbery on November 27, 1936, in Gretna, NE. He was the fifth of seven children. He graduated from Gretna High School in 1954 and went to work for Union Pacific Railroad in Omaha as a machinist. On September 22, 1964 he began his career as a Conservation Officer for the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. He was based in Omaha until he took a transfer to North Platte in February of 1971. He enjoyed working as a Game Warden until he retired on October 29, 2004.
On May 15, 1971, Dwight married Barbara Peterson of Lincoln. They purchased a home in North Platte and both enjoyed gardening, camping and traveling. Dwight was very involved in all things outdoors, an avid softball player, was a long-time member of The Eagles Club, and they were both founding members of the Cody Ringnecks chapter of Pheasants Forever.
Dwight is survived by his loving wife of 42 years; Barbara and daughters Rachelle Allbery (Shawn McQuade), Rhonda (Allan) McGill and step-daughters Marlene Wiest, Sharlene (David) Carmichael, and Julie Alm. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Justin (Gena) Jones, Casey (Alesa) Jones, Cody (Amanda) Burrows, Shelby Wiest, Matthew Wiest, Landon and Lilli McGill and Gage, Sissy and Rylee McQuade. He has seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Dixie Allbery and Edna Allbery, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Dwight was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Wayne, Wesley, Lee Roy (Ida) and Lyle, and sisters Sharon Grubb and Karen (George) Plambeck.
Cremation was chosen. A memorial service will be11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 14, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church in North Platte, NE. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association, Great Plains Chapter or Outdoor Buddies. Online condolences may be shared at www.carpentermemorial.com.
