Francis Edwin Wever, Jr., 89, of North Platte, NE, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 22, 2025, at his home.
Francis was born on November 4, 1936, in North Platte, NE, the son of Francis, Sr. and Twila (Hopkins) Wever. He grew up on the family farm between Hershey and Sutherland that started as his grandparents' homestead and graduated from Sutherland High School in 1955. On February 7, 1965, Francis married Pamela Jean Schroeder in North Platte and together they had two daughters, Jean and Janet. Francis was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He had a lifelong career at the Union Pacific Railroad as a machinist and retired in 1999, enjoying many years of retirement.
Francis was an outdoorsman, enjoying hunting in his younger years and always loved fishing, especially with his grandkids. He took pride in gardening, growing beautiful roses and flowers for Pam and provided tomatoes to many family, friends and neighbors. Francis and Pam had a lot of fun camping, attending bluegrass festivals and spending time with the family they loved so much.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Jean (Randy) Hinton of Lincoln, and Janet (Richard) Solano of Denver, CO; grandkids, Alex (Erica) Hinton of Omaha, NE, Ryan (Jennica) Hinton, Hannah (Tim) Shaver, Nathan Burbach, and Grace Burbach all of Denver, CO; sisters, Aubra (George) Humphrey of Sutherland, and Dora Seerley of Sutherland; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pamela; his parents, Francis, Sr., Twila and stepmother Agnes; in-laws, Ken and Dollie Schroeder; brother, Fred (Alberta) Wever; brother-in-law, Doug Seerley; sister-in-law, Deborah McElroy; son-in-law, David Burbach.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to his long-time church First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 305 W 5th St, North Platte, NE 69101 or the Nebraska Community Foundation, PO Box 83107, Lincoln, NE 68501 to help support small towns in Nebraska. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Patrick Sipes officiating. Inurnment will take place at North Platte Cemetery. The memorial book will be available to be signed on Friday, January 2, 2026, from 9 AM to 5 PM at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which has been entrusted with arrangements.
