Genevieve Maxine Newman, 97, of North Platte and formerly of Maxwell died July 4, 2013.
She was born on January 6, 1916 at Trumbull, Nebraska to Chester and Liva P. Rader Munn. On January 17, 1946, she married John Newman at Ogallala. He preceded her in death on June 10, 1985. Mrs. Newman was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was chairman of the church quilting group and the Eagles Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing, canning, traveling, bowling, working as an RSVP volunteer, working at the thrift center and at the church.
Survivors include 6 daughters, Beverly Block of Omaha, Alberta (Larry) Kennedy of Spokane, WA., Martha Peterson of Lexington, Betty Lou (Frank) Knox of Sumner, Peggy (Herb) Wong of Oakland, CA., Debra (Roy) Rogers of North Platte, 2 sons, William of Idaho and Jimmy of North Platte, daughter-in-law, Jere Newman of Denver, CO., 2 sisters, Mary Lou O'Hara of Palmer, NE., and Crystal Herrick of Kansas City, MO, one brother, Doyle Munn of Grand Island, NE., 15 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 20 great great grandchildren, not including any step grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents, and 5 brothers, Kenneth, Frank, Clarence, Albert and Bill Munn, 3 sisters, Edith, Dorothy and Betty, a daughter, Sharon Mentzer and 2 sons, Eugene and Johnny, and a great granddaughter, Misty Schultz.
