Gordon Dee Gadway of North Platte, Nebraska passed away April 30, 2026.
Gordon was born December 28, 1933 in a farm house in Wellfleet, Nebraska, to Robert and Floretta Gadway. He grew up and attended country school District 40 near Wellfleet. In 1951 he graduated from the Nebraska School of Agriculture. After graduation, he worked on local farms until he began working for Western Electric Company. During his employment with Western Electric Company, he had the opportunity to travel from New York to Honolulu, Hawaii.
In 1955 Gordon married Florice Jolliff at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Platte. Earlier in their marriage, they lived in Omaha, North Platte and Sidney, Nebraska. Gordon was drafted in 1956 to the Army and took basic training at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas. He then was stationed at Fort Monmouth, NJ, for a year before being sent to Korea until 1958. He received the Quilt of Valor on January 11, 2025. After his military service, the family returned to North Platte where he returned to work at Western Electric, and they built their home at Lake Maloney in 1967. In 1982, they moved to Littleton, Colorado for four years, then returned to their home at Lake Maloney, and in 2011 moved into the town of North Platte.
Gordan was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Telephone Pioneers, where he served a term as state president, the American Legion, Sertoma Club, Elks Club, Eagles Club, Gift of Hope Cancer Foundation, and Lake Maloney HomeOwners Association. Gordon and Flo will always be remembered for their 40 +years of support of UNL Athletics and NPCC Athletics.
Gordon is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, brothers, Robert and Wes, parents-in-law, and sisters-in-law. He is survived by his brothers, Stanley (Marilyn) Gadway and Maynard Gadway; sister-in-law, Linda Gadway; nieces, Vicki (Gary) Wirth and Tracey (Gary) Kracl; a nephew, Dean (Kristen) Gadway; several great nieces and nephews; great-great nieces and nephews and several good friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Gift of Hope Cancer Foundation or the First Evangelical Church in North Platte. Online Condolences and Live Stream of the service will be at carpentermemorial.com.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Platte with the Rev. Patrick Sipes officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. at Fort McPherson National Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at 10:30 prior to the service. Carpenter Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.
