Obituary

Jack Melvin Aspenleiter, 76, of North Platte, NE died on February 4, 2021 at Great Plains Health. He was born on June 17, 1944 to Dorothy and Jacob Aspenleiter. He grew up in Milwaukee, WI. He entered the United States Army on June 28, 1966, serving in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged on June 8, 1968. After serving he enjoyed being on the farm, where he went to work for his sister and brother-in-law and found a full-time job with Holzfaster's, where he worked for 14 years.

Jack was united in marriage to Lana S. Storer on November 27, 1971 in Lewellen, NE and to this union two children were born: Connie and Bob. They raised their children south of Paxton. In 1987 the family moved to North Platte, where he started over the road trucking. They moved to Curtis in 1993 and during that time, Jack purchased his own truck and started hauling grain. He retired his love for trucking in 2010.

He loved watching old shows, especially Hogan's Heroes, Green Acres, Honeymooners, MASH, and I Dream of Jeannie. On Sunday's, Jack liked to watch Clint Eastwood and John Wayne movies. He was a handy man and a jack of all trades. He also loved sports, whether it was competing or watching, and especially loved supporting his grandchildren. Jack never knew a stranger and will always be remembered for his light-hearted humor and jokes.

He is survived by his wife, Lana; sister, Joan Saichek of Rockford, IL; children, Connie (Gerud) Elson of Curtis, Bob Aspenleiter of North Platte; grandchildren, Colton (Morgan) Aspenleiter of Curtis, Cody (Cidney) Aspenleiter of Indianola, Zacary (Emmaly) Bailey of Franktown, CO, Justin Bailey and Jessa Bailey of Curtis; great grandchildren, Brantley, Karsynn, and Colt Aspenleiter of Curtis and Cooper Aspenleiter of Indianola; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded by his parents, Jacob Aspenleiter and Dorothy Saichek; sister, Jeane (Edward) Perlinger; brother-in-law, Jack Saichek; nephew, Scott Perlinger; and mother and father-in-law; LaVern and Geneva Storer.
