Jean Rae Goltry, age 84, of North Platte, Nebraska, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at home surrounded by her loving family.

Jean was born September 21, 1941, in Sioux City, Iowa, to James Lewis and Florence Jeannette (Gillette) Cooper. After moving to North Platte in 1943, Jean and her siblings were raised by their grandparents, Ray and Bertha Cooper. Jean graduated from North Platte High School in 1960 and shortly after married John Fisher. To this Union was born her beloved daughter Gloria. After John’s untimely passing, Jean remarried to Earl Leroy Goltry in 1964. To this union was born her cherished boys Earl Jr., Clarence, Anthony, and Michael. Throughout her life, Jean was active in the Salvation Army, from her dedication as a young girl to her final days.

Jean will be remembered as someone who always showed up, even when she was in great pain. From attending family’s events, to participating at the Salvation Army, to even helping coach the Special Olympics in the 80’s, she was always there, ready to show she cared. Though she could be hard-headed and blunt, she was always the first to lend a helping hand, even to her own detriment. That isn’t to say she wouldn’t have a comment or joke ready, as she loved pranks and was never afraid to say how she felt about a situation. She was also known to use her care as an excuse to expand her stuffed animal selection, saying they were gifts for her beloved great-granddaughter. She loved drinks, and could often be territorial of her strawberry Ensure, tea, and milk. But most of all, she loved her family. She took great care and pride in being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was known in the family as the one who always sent birthday cards, competing with “Aunt” Viviane to send them out first. She was always someone her family could turn to and she will be greatly missed.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons Clarence and Mike Golrty of North Platte and Anthony Goltry of Denver, CO; granddaughter Michelle (Cruz Perez) Fisher of North Platte; great-granddaughter Gloria Fisher-Davis; siblings Betty Cade of Council Bluffs, Karen Mawhinney-Keck of Omaha, Larry Cooper of Omaha, Gerry Cooper of Papillion, David Huddle of Arlington, Donna Carmichael of Omaha, Jimmy Cooper of Omaha, and Kathy Cooper of Omaha; adopted grandchildren Heather, Holly, Derek, and Amber; dog Bean; and numerous more family and friends.

Jean is preceded in death by her husbands John Fisher and Earl Goltry; parents James and Florence Cooper; daughter Gloria Fisher; son Earl Goltry Jr.; grandparents Ray and Bertha Cooper; sister Nancy Grosse; and special four-legged friends Gabby and Holly.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, June 22, 2026, at 10 a.m. at the Salvation Army with Major Kris Wood officiating. Burial will follow at Fort McPherson National Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held Sunday, June 21, 2026, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which has been entrusted with arrangements.
