IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jeffrey C
Rosenthal
July 5, 1951 – January 12, 2024
Jeffrey Cargill Rosenthal, 72, of North Platte. NE passed away in the early hours of January 12th, 2024, with his youngest son by his side at North Platte Community Care Center.
Jeff was born on July 5th, 1951, in Kimball, Nebraska to Robert C. Rosenthal and Elizabeth (Libby) Cargill Rosenthal. Jeff spent his youth growing up in the town of Dix, Nebraska where he excelled in athletics, especially baseball and football.
In 1968, against his will, he moved to Kearney, Nebraska to finish out his senior year. Because of the move, he was not able to compete in his senior year of football.
After graduation, he attended UNK for two years. The winter of 1975 Jeff and a friend were driving around during a blizzard trying to find something to do since campus was closed. They found their way to a bar called The Play Pen where he met his future wife, Katie Frye. Two years later, on August 20th, 1977, they were married in North Platte at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. From this union came their three children: Robbie, Becky and Kristofer.
After college, Jeff went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad where he worked on the section gang and the Maintenance way before being hired on as a brakeman. Jeff also worked as a union griever and union officer for the UTU 200. He worked on the railroad his entire career until he retired in 2003 due to injuries.
Jeff's greatest accomplishment was his family. He took so much pride in his wife, children and grandchildren, never missing an opportunity to talk about them. He loved to watch his grandchildren participate in events whether it was athletics, plays, concerts, etc. He worked so hard in his life and missed so many of his kids' events that he tried to make up for it with his grandkids. He went to as many things as he could until his health made it impossible.
Jeff had a love of horses and the racetrack and owned many racehorses throughout his life. He trained them from babies to runners and had a few that were successful in Grand Island, Des Moines, Omaha and Minnesota.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, Robert & Libby Rosenthal, brother Robin Rosenthal. In-laws Don & Trudy Frye, brother-in-law Pat Frye and granddaughter Brooklyn Feltz.
Survivors include his wife, Katie. Children: Robbie (Angela) and grandchildren Gavin, Bailey & Reed. Becky (Bo) Feltz and grandchildren Cooper & Chase. Kristofer (Tracey) and grandson Karter. A brother Mike (Barb) Rosenthal. Brother-in-law Jim Frye. Sister-in-law Lynda Brooks and many nieces and nephews.
