Joan E. Trygstad, 86, of North Platte, NE passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 23, 2024 at the home of her daughter in Lakeville, Minnesota.

Joan was born on July 12, 1937 in Montrose, SD, the daughter of Orville and Leila (Henle) Erickson.  Joan grew up in Montrose and graduated from Montrose High School in 1955.  She married Kenneth M. Trygstad on September 17, 1958 in Montrose, SD and together they had four children.

The family spent many years living in Sioux Falls and Rapid City, SD.  Joan worked as a teller and bank associate with First National Rushmore Bank for 22 years.  Following her husband Ken's retirement the family moved to Blackhawk, SD, to Denver, CO for a short time, and finally to North Platte, NE.

Joan was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Rapid City and at Messiah Lutheran Church in North Platte in recent years.  She enjoyed crocheting, working on puzzles, and was an avid reader.  Above all Joan adored spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Joan will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish Joan's memory are her children, Mark (Mary Celeste) Trygstad of Augusta, GA, Patricia (Paul) Johnson of Lakeville, MN, Paul (Candy) Trygstad of Windsor, CO, and Kaylene (Terry) Sodawasser of North Platte; grandchildren, Martin L. (Christy) Johnson, Matthew P. (Kelli) Johnson, Joshua (Erin) Trygstad, Maria (Andrew) Tijernia, Daniel (Joslynne) Trygstad, Sarah (Brendan) Pendley, Ben (Sydney) Trygstad, Aaron Trygstad, Lydia Trygstad; and Joe Trygstad, Katie (Lance) Wright, and Andrew (Kat) Sodawasser; great-grandchildren, Luka, Ezra, Margot, Ira, Wyatt, Owen, Colette, Dakota, Carson, Wesley, Rhett, Jace, Jaxon, Aspen, Caden, Zeke, Zoey, Leila, Kohen, Larken, Jayden, and special child Azalea; step-grandchild, William Rosabal; sisters, Joyce Strom of Madison, SD, and Deborah Ramirez of Mexico; sister in law, Jackie Erickson of GA; and numerous other family members and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Ken; brother, James Erickson; brother in laws, Steve Strom, Mark VanCuren, and Roberto Ramirez; and step-grandson, Melchor Rosabal.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Messiah Lutheran Church in North Platte, NE with Pastor Anne Durboraw officiating.  Burial will follow at a later date in Pine Lawn Cemetery in Rapid City, SD.  The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church.  Carpenter Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.
