John E. Hanson
John E. Hanson, 73, of North Platte, formerly of McCook, passed away April 26, 2014 at his home. He was born on a farm near Courtland, KS to Everett and Eleanor (Long) Hanson on December 24, 1940. He was raised on this farm and graduated from Courtland High School and Ft. Hayes Kansas State College with a Bachelor's of Science in Agriculture. He was united in marriage to his best friend, Diane J. Perry on February 8, 1964. To this union three children were born, John E. (Meagan) Hanson, Jr., Karen J. (Mike) Harrach and Mary L. (Mitch) Martin. John started his work career in the spring of 1965 with Federal Credit Bank of Omaha and spent the next 25 years working at Prudential Credit and Farm Credit Offices located in Yankton, S.D., McCook, NE and North Platte, NE, and Ag Loan Officer with McCook National. Most of these years were spent living and working out of McCook. John was very active in the McCook community. He served as an officer on the McCook Chamber of Commerce Ag Tech Force and was an officer of the Southwest Nebraska Cattlemen Association. John served a four year term on the McCook City Council, representing the city as secretary of the Board of Zoning Adjustments and representative on the Area 20 Crime Commission. He also served as an active member of the McCook Volunteer Fire Department and as treasure of the Department. He was selected and served a term on the Community Hospital Board and served as an active member of three community clubs, Habitat for Humanity, The McCook Lion's Club and the McCook Rotary Club. He is survived by his wife, Diane of North Platte; his three children; and 8 grandchildren, Alex, Meredith, Evan, Brennen, Eleanor, Erynn, Keira and Abigail. Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in McCook. Inurnment will be at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the McCook Habitat for Humanity.
