Obituary

Larry Roger Baumann was born on February 19, 1946, in Chadron, Nebraska, to Bob and Mary Nadine (Babe) (Simpson) Baumann.  Larry spent his childhood in Chadron playing baseball with his brothers and working in the family shoe store, F&M Bootery.  His love for sports began in childhood and continued throughout his life.  In high school, Larry played legion baseball during the summers and played basketball and ran track during the school year.  Larry graduated from Chadron State College in 1968 where he spent all 4 years playing basketball and running track.  He was ultimately inducted into the Chadron State College Athletic Hall of Fame as a result of his successful college career in both sports.

After college, Larry joined the US Army and was proud to serve his country overseas and was stationed in both Vietnam and Germany before returning home in 1971.  Larry graduated from the University of Nebraska College of Law in 1974 and first began practicing law in York, Nebraska.  In 1980, Larry moved to North Platte and joined the law practice of Kelley Scritsmier and Byrne, PC where he practiced law as a partner in the firm until his retirement in 2023.

Larry's law career spanned over 50 years and saw him appear in numerous courts, including multiple state and federal courts, the US Tax Court, and the Nebraska Supreme Court.  He enjoyed helping his clients and being in the courtroom and was proud to have had the opportunity to argue a number of cases before the Nebraska Supreme Court.

In addition to the practice of law, Larry was active in the North Platte community, including participating in organizations such as the Jaycees, Chamber of Commerce, Nebraskaland Days Board, Cody Calvery, and the First United Methodist Church.

Larry was known for his gift of gab, his good sense of humor, and his quick wit.  In his free time, Larry was an avid reader (and had bookshelves full of his favorite books) and a lifelong Yankees fan.  He also loved Nebraska football (especially in the 1990s) and enjoyed watching professional and college sports of all kinds, including University of Nebraska - Omaha (UNO), Creighton University, and University of Nebraska - Lincoln (UNL) women's volleyball.   Larry and his wife, Marcia, spent 33 years together enjoying traveling and attending sporting events and concerts (especially the Eagles) and their shared love of good food and fine wine.

Above all, family was first for Larry.  He had no problem telling anyone who would listen how great his children were, and he loved watching his kids and grandchildren in their many sports and activities.   Larry passed on to many of his children and grandchildren a love for sports, reading, and donuts.

Larry also held a special place in his heart for his siblings (Mike, Lee and Jan) with whom he shared loving and lifelong relationships, his friends from the Ohio street neighborhood in York, and the very special friendships he had with the "Friday Night Hub Club" in North Platte.

His loving memory will be left with his surviving family members, including his wife, Marcia, his children Brenda (Russ) Pulling of Highlands Ranch, CO, Andi (Jim) Renshaw of Lone Tree, CO, Abby (Barrett) Brown of Lakewood, CO, Jeff (Bailey) Baumann of Omaha, NE, Chele (Michael) Nyffeler of Lafayette, CO, and Jennifer (Chase) Hansen of St. Augustine, FL.  He will be watching over his grandchildren Bryanna, Rand, Rhys, and Breklyn Pulling, Ryan (Zach) Gammel, Sydney and Luke Renshaw, Joelle and Evelyn Baumann, Eliana Nyffeler, Zane and Jada Morales, and Taven and Annabelle Hansen.  He is also survived by his brothers Mike (Pam) Baumann, Lee (Cheryl) Baumann and sister Jan (Dave) Smith, brother-in-laws Bill (Cheryl) Bliefernich and Pat Riggleman. And many nieces and nephews and special friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Babe Baumann, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bernard and Elaine Bliefernich, and sister-in-law, Mary Riggleman.
