He was born on April 16, 1932, to Arthur and Hedwig (Hattie) Branting on the family homestead, south of North Platte, where he resided until recently. He attended grade school at Lincoln County Center, District 44 (now known as Lake Maloney Elementary) and then went on to attend North Platte High School before entering the US Navy in 1951. He married Ruby Ann Zeigler on October 21 that same year.
After his honorable discharge from the Navy in 1955, he returned to North Platte and took up farming and ranching. He raised Hereford cattle and grew corn until retiring from that endeavor in 1984.

He married his second wife, Lois Sandberg/Konruff of Hershey, NE, on May 27, 1990.
After retiring from Joe Dye Ford, he took a job at Scouts Rest Ranch to keep busy doing lawn care and odd jobs.
LeRoy loved working in his wood shop and around his property and would often be seen riding his golf cart around with his dog, spraying weed killer on anything that moved. He was well known in the community for his long-horn steer (Bozo) and donkey (Jack), which were local favorites among passersby.
Some of his best times were spent at Mill Isle Boat Club, where he had wonderful neighbors and many stories with family and friends.
He served on the Lincoln County District 44 school board for 18 years and the Lincoln County Fair board for 25 years.
