LeRoy C. Montgomery, age 81, of North Platte, died Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at North Platte Care Center. He was born on November 20, 1931 at his parent's home in Elm Creek to the late Clarence and Florence (Karsten) Montgomery. He grew up and attended school in Elm Creek. He was in the U.S. Army from April 1952 to March 1954 and served in Korea. He married Stella Ourada in 1954. LeRoy was an insurance adjuster and lived in Kearney, Lincoln and moved to Norfolk in 1967. He worked for Battle Creek Insurance Company for over 25 years. On December 24, 1989 he married Darlene Shearer. After retiring from Battle Creek Insurance Company he moved to Kearney and was a driver for Ryde Bus until he was injured. He moved to North Platte in July 2013. Survivors include his wife, Darlene, of North Platte, one son and his spouse, Steven and Trish Montgomery of Norfolk, daughter-in-law Linda Montgomery of Minden, two stepsons, Dallas and Theresa(Swanson) Shearer and Dondi and Ronda Shearer, grandchildren, Alisha and Jeff Wortmann, Travis Montgomery, Jesse and Lori Montgomery, and AJ Montgomery and great-grandson Braxton Montgomery, fourteen step-grandchildren, twelve great step-grandchildren, two great, great step-grandchildren, and many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Stella, and son, Monty Montgomery. Cremation was chosen. Memorial graveside services will be 11:00 am Saturday, September 21, 2013 at the Elm Creek Cemetery in Elm Creek, NE. Carpenter Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
