June 21, 1946 – June 10, 2022
Loren Lee Sweley, 75, of North Platte, NE passed away at home surrounded by his family Friday, June 10, 2022 after a long health battle.
Loren was born in Grand Island, NE to Wilma and Delbert (Short) Sweley on June 21,1946. He lived in Litchfield, NE and North Platte, NE before returning to Grand Island to Graduate from Grand Island Senior High in 1964. After High School he was hired on to the UPRR and was later drafted into the Navy where he served his country and earned a Purple Heart. He married Teresa Brockelsby on Oct 13, 1979 and they raised 5 children together. Loren enjoyed hunting, fishing, and taking care of his lawn. He loved making cotton candy for local school fun nights and spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed carpentry, home improvement projects, and was the family Mr. Fix It. After 49 years at UPRR in his retirement he also enjoyed collecting, restoring, and showing classic cars.
He was preceded in death by his parents Wilma and Delbert Sweley, and his beloved sisters Carol Jean Windhorst, and Jenni Jo Sweley.
He is survived by his wife Teresa; children, Jennie (Mauricio) Cabrera, Robyn (Robert) Kopcznski, Sam (Sarah) Sweley, CJ (Brandon) Morrison, Abby (Thad) Gallegos and his grandchildren Aaron, Hannah, Kolton, Reagan and Myles. He is also survived by his siblings, Larry (Margaret) Sweley, Cindy (Mitch) Hensley, his brother-in-law Dan Windhorst, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Melinda and Jim Crow; many nieces, nephews, cousins and lots of close friends.
Memorial services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2022 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with Pastor Dave Cumming officiating. (To honor Loren please wear blue Jeans and drive your classic car to the service.) Burial with military honors will follow at Ft. McPherson National Veterans Cemetery near Maxwell. The memorial book will be available for signing on Wednesday, June 15 th from 12:00 noon – 5:00 p.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which has been entrusted with the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a charitable contribution to the North Platte Special Olympics.
