Obituary

Marilyn Joann Dorwart, age 87, of North Platte, Nebraska, passed away Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Linden Court.

Marilyn was born December 31, 1938, in Boonville, Missouri, to Charles and Clara (Grauer) Hirlinger. There she grew up, graduating from Boonville High School. During this time, she began dating John Leroy Dorwart, following him to many different Navy bases across his deployment, including the Great Lakes Navy Base where the two were wed on April 6, 1957. To their union of over 69 years was born their beloved children Theresa, Tamara, Deborah, Cynthia, David, and John Jr. After John’s discharge, the happy couple moved to North Platte where Marilyn attended Mid-Plains Community College. There she achieved her Optometric Assistant Certification, which she used to help her husband at his company Fashion Spectacle.

Marilyn had many interests with which she filled her life. From peaceful evenings working puzzles to coloring in creative coloring books. She loved to sew and created beautiful counted cross stich pictures. She loved flowers and sitting on her porch enjoying her beautiful yard she created. Marilyn filled her life with experiences, but most of all she filled her time with her family. She loved attending events for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed her grandchildren and loved seeing them grow into smart and loving people they are today. Marilyn was a kind woman and with never a bad thing to say about anybody, taking no names in vain. She was devoted in faith and often spent time at church and with loved ones singing hymns.

Those left to cherish Marilyn’s memory are her husband, John; children Theresa (Bill) Doenz of Big Horn, WY, Tamara Comer of Cozad, NE, Cynthia (Max) Halouska of Alliance, NE, David Dorwart of North Platte, and John Jr. (Sarah) Dorwart of North Platte; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many more family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Clara, sister Janette, brother Chares Wayne, daughter Deborah Dorwart, and grandsons Jonathan Gage Gaedke-Dorwart and Robert Chase Doenz.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, October 22, 2026, at 10 a.m. at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor Daniel Ramsey officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook, NE. Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 21, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, who has been entrusted with arrangements.
