Mark S.
Shaner
Jun 18, 1955 — Oct 27, 2026
North Platte
Mark S. Shaner, of North Platte, Nebraska, passed away on October 27, 2026, at Great Plains Hospital in North Platte. He was 71. He was born on June 18, 1955, in North Platte, Nebraska to Gerald and Donna (Keithley) Shaner.
Mark graduated from North Platte High School and went on to build a life marked by hard work and independence. He worked as a seismographer and later spent time ranching. Marks father Gerald, started and operated Shaner's Upholstery and upon his passing Mark took over the business. After closing his business, he worked as a truck driver for Cash-Wa Distributing.
He was a simple man who found joy in life’s quiet and steady moments. Mark loved sitting on his patio in the evenings, watching the sunset and taking in the peace of the day’s end. He preferred reading books to watching television and enjoyed being outdoors. He was a gifted gardener and landscaper. Vegetable gardening brought him happiness, and he also loved traveling. A faithful companion in his life was his German Shepherd, Ricky.
Those who knew Mark will remember a man who loved life and appreciated all of the small, simple things it offered. He was carefree, kind, and selfless, and he carried those qualities into the way he lived each day.
Mark is survived by his daughter, Cheyenne (Chris) Stroup, and his son, Cimarron (Tessa) Shaner. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Odin, Bodi, and Jaylee, who were an important part of his family circle. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Gary Shaner.
Mark’s life was shaped by honest work, quiet pleasures, and love for his family. He will be remembered with affection and gratitude by those who knew him. In honoring his life led by simplicity, an intimate, family gathering will be held at a later date.
Carpenter Memorial Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
