Marvin D. Peterson, 89, of North Platte, passed away July 30, 2017 at North Platte Care Center. He was born June 11, 1928 to John and Maggie (Wilhelmson) Peterson at Hayes Center, Nebraska.
He graduated from Hayes Center High School with the class of "48". On May 3, 1950, Marvin was united in marriage to Norma Jean Curran. He worked on the Sutherland Dam for a few years before being employed by the Public Schools in North Platte, eventually becoming the head of the maintenance department. Marvin hired out in 1968 to the Union Pacific Railroad, as a carman, retiring in 1988.
He loved to garden, hunt, fish, and taught his family to respect the outdoors. His faith was his compass and he attended Parkview Community Church of the Nazarene. Marvin was the kindest and most gentle husband, father, grandfather and friend.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Jean; a son, Douglas D. (Brenda Grant) Peterson; two daughters, Debbie (Rod) Miller and Pamela Peterson all of North Platte; a sister, Barbara Gigax of Hayes Center; two sisters-in-law, Jane Peterson of Texas and Marilyn Peterson of Cozad; grandchildren, Michael (Christy) Miller, John (Jodi) Miller, Sunny (Josh) Yocum-Whitmore; great grandchildren, Micah, Shayla, Tanner, Shaylee, Jaden, Gage, Caden, Allie, Connor, Declan, Graham, Carrissa, Midgey and Myah; great great grandchildren, Torran, Tracen and Easton; and a special friend, Don Lakey. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Richard and Charles "Whitey" Peterson; sister, LaVada Moore and great grandson, Noah Ramos.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 3, 2017 at Parkview Community Church of the Nazarene withThe Reverend Jack Atteberry officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel. Cremation will follow services on Thursday. Inurnment will follow at a later date. Carpenter Memorial Chapel is in care of arrangements.
