IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Randall "Randy"
R. Brandt
October 17, 1939 – June 7, 2025
With his family by his bedside, Randall "Randy" R. Brandt, passed away on June 7, 2025, at the age of 85. Randy was welcomed into the world on October 17, 1939, by his parents, Ralph and Irene (Boggs) Brandt in North Platte, NE.
Known to be a gentle and modest man, Randy held many accomplishments throughout his lifetime. Soon after graduating from North Platte High School, Randy enlisted into the United States Navy, June 3, 1958. He served in the military as an Aviation Boatswain's Mate, holding the responsibility of ensuring the ships had a steady supply of high-quality fuel, a fast paced and hazardous duty. Randy was awarded a good conduct medal upon being honorably discharged in 1962. After returning home, he spent some time working as a sheet metal worker for Hansen's Heating & Plumbing before beginning his career with the Union Pacific Railroad as a pipefitter, retiring in 2001.
After leaving the military, he met Jean Root. They were wed in 1964 in North Platte and the two became parents to a daughter, Tammy and a son, Rodney. The couple divorced in 1975. Randy married Sharon (Sherry) Summers Halsted in 1984 taking on the role of stepfather to Sherry's two boys.
After Sherry's passing in 2022, Randy was able to reconnect with his children, Tammy and Rod, and rekindled a relationship with a lifelong friend of over 60 years, Carol Hansen. Carol was the woman that brought Randy's smile back and the fishing partner he had longed for.
Randy enjoyed most outdoor activities – fishing, deer, pheasant, and waterfowl hunting, and camping. He and his fiancé, Carol, spent time enjoying each others company, fishing and spending time with friends and family. Randy possessed a natural and superb skill for woodworking and was a long-time member of the North Platte Eagle's Club.
It is hard to say goodbye to a man so caring, selfless, and kind; a man that many aspired to be like, especially for his fiancé, Carol Hansen of North Platte; his children, Tammy (Mike) Buntjer of Anchorage, AK, and Rodney (Jennifer) Brandt of North Platte. Randy is also survived by grandchildren, Rylee Brandt and Brandi Bayne; great grandchildren, Shaelynn and Blake, stepson, Scott (Malinda) Halsted; sisters, LaRae (Delmar) Attebery and Maris (Frank) Aldrich; niece, Kris Attebery, nephew Gary (RoxAnne) Attebery, and numerous cousins.
Those that precede Randy in death include his parents, Ralph and Irene Brandt; spouse, Sherry and stepson, Bryan Halsted.
The family requests memorials be made to the North Platte Eagle's Club or the Callahan Cancer Center in memory of Randall Brandt. Expressions of sympathy and livestreaming of the service can be found at www.carpentermemorial.com.
