October 28, 1945 – June 13, 2024
Rex L. George, 78, of North Platte, NE passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at Great Plains Health Hospital. He was born on October 28, 1945 in Cheyenne, WY the son of Louis and Alta Marie (Mick) George.
Following high school Rex joined the U.S. Army and served for four years, including 32 months in Germany. He earned his B.S. degree in science from Kearney State College. Rex was married on November 20, 1970 to Linda Jordening and together they had one son Kyle. Rex taught science for 3 years in Guide Rock and spent the rest of his teaching career for 28 years in the Hershey school district. During his time at Hershey, he served as an Assistant Coach for the boys' basketball team under Rick Elsasser for a number of years, as the girls' Head Track Coach for a number of years, and helped start the wrestling program with Jim Loshbaugh. He was a beloved teacher who inspired his students to always do their very best. Rex was an avid Husker fan and was looking forward to the new fall season of Husker football. He enjoyed practice shooting, and spending time with his family.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 53 years, Linda; son, Kyle George of North Platte; brother, Gerry George of Gurley; sisters, Dayle (Jack) Craig of Sidney, and Billie-Sue Pearce of Guthrie, OK; nieces, Brooke (Derek) Lloyd of Sidney, Mindy Faimon of Alma; nephews, Tyson (Nikki) Jordening of Blue Hill, Trenton (Jadaysa) Jordening of Blue Hill; brothers in law, Alan Jordening, and Terry (Kay) Jordening both of Blue Hill; sister in law, Cheri Jordening of Hastings.
He was predeceased by his parents; parents-in-law, Norman and Mildreth Jordening; sister, Mickey George; sister-in-law, Judy George; brothers in law, Norman Pearce and Donn Jordening; and nephews, Sean and Chad.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 21, 2024 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with Pastor Wade Hudson officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in the North Platte Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
