Obituary

Robert H. Butterfield, 66, of North Platte received his Angel wings on November 11, 2012 in Lincoln Nebraska. Born February 28, 1946 in Franklin, NE to Harold and Maurine (Tecker) Butterfield. Bob grew up in Hastings, graduating from Hastings High School in 1965. He attended Lamar Jr. College and later joined the United States Marine Corps where he served in Vietnam from 1967-1969 at which time he fought in the Khe Sanh during the Tet offensive. Honorable discharged from the Marine Corp in 1976. He married Barbara Thompson on November 18, 1972 in North Platte. To this union two sons, Brian and Bradley, were born. Bob worked for Simon's Construction in North Platte until 1990. He later followed his love for gardening working at Huebner's, Earl May and lastly at Garden Glove. He enjoyed coaching his sons and many others in various sports. He loved watching his grandchildren play basketball, baseball and football. Bob loved his pond, spending many summer hours expanding it and showing it off to whoever wanted to see it. Bob is survived by his wife, Barbara Butterfield; sons, Brian (Christina) Butterfield and Bradley (Misty) Butterfield, grandchildren, Bryce, Carter, Jaxon and Kamryn Butterfield and Jayden Shannon, all of North Platte. Brother, Tim Butterfield (Kathy Smith), of Omaha; mother-in-law Grace Schutte of North Platte, brothers-in-law Jerry (Cheryl) Thompson, Rich (Mardell) Thompson, Tim (Tracy) Thompson, all of North Platte. Special friends Joe Vogel of Ruskin, FL and Ben Klozenbutcher of Waverly, NE and numerous nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded by his parents, Harold and Maurine Butterfield, grandparents, Allen and Louise Butterfield and Harry and Elsie Tecker, and father-in-law, Walter Thompson.
A memorial has been established for Babe Ruth Youth Baseball in North Platte.
