Obituary

Rodney Lynn Scott, 84, of North Platte, NE passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 11, 2022 at Linden Court surrounded by his family.

Rodney was born on January 17, 1938 in Max, NE the son of Frederick and Margaret (Crow) Scott.

Rodney graduated from Max High School in 1955.  He was married to Betty Brown on October 9, 1955.  They lived in Borger, Texas, for four years, where Steven Lee was born on Dec. 3, 1956, and Kent Wayne on July 17, 1959.  Rod was a construction laborer until 1956 when he became an apprentice bricklayer which became his life work.  The family moved back to Nebraska in November 1959 and lived in Max and Kearney before moving to North Platte in 1961.  There, Lynne Marie was born Oct. 27, 1962, and Karen Sue on April 29, 1964, who passed shortly after birth.  In 1961, Rod and Jack McClellen formed Scott-McClellen Masonry.  Rod laid bricks at the Veterans Memorial and helped on the mural as well, retiring in 2009.  Rod loved his family and friends foremost.  He enjoyed riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles since 1953 and was a HOG member and treasurer of the local club for 5 years.  He became an avid woodcarver in his retirement years and was a lifelong member of the NRA.  Rod was a 60-year member of the First United Methodist Church, and placed his faith in God, as a very important part of his daily life.

Those left to cherish Rodney's memory are his son, Steven (Dianne) Scott of Kearns, UT; daughter, Lynne (Gale) Eddins of Parker, CO; daughter-in-law, Judi (Chuck) Schanfish; grandchildren, Kristi, Benjamin and Samantha Scott and Tanner Eddins; great-grandchildren, Darren Nichols, Jasper and Kayden Dalton, Trysten Eddins and Silas and Benjamin Scott.

Rodney was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty; son, Kent; daughter, Karen; brother and sister-in-law, Claude (Willa) Scott; and sister, Evelyn Novacek.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. MT on Thursday, August 18, 2022 at Benkelman Cemetery.  Carpenter Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church.
