Ruth Irene Bland
Ruth I. Bland, 90, of Sutherland, passed away December 8, 2014 at Sutherland Care Center. She was born November 15, 1924 to Benjamin H. and Bessie S. (Thompson) Craige at Robinson, KS. Ruth was raised in Kansas and graduated from Robinson High School. On September 2, 1945, she was united in marriage to Victor Bland at Robinson. Ruth was employed as an administrative secretary for various companies including Ebasco Construction, Martin Marietta, and also Apollo Space Program at Cape Kennedy, retiring in 1982. Then she and her husband moved to Sutherland, NE. She enjoyed quilting and playing cards. Ruth was present in the delivery room when her second grandson was born. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Sutherland and a volunteer Hospice worker. She is survived by her two sons, Gregory (Marcia) Bland of North Platte and Larry Bland of Sutherland; two sisters, Alice Tryon of Robinson, KS and Betty (Stan) Hastings of Lancaster, CA; and four grandchildren, Douglas, Ryan, Michael and Courtney Bland. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Victor in 1998. Online condolences may be shared at www.carpentermemorial.com. Memorials are suggested to donor's choice. Cremation was chosen. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell, NE with the Reverend Frank Fitch, III officiating. Carpenter Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
