Obituary

Sharon Kay Karre of North Platte, NE, was created by her heavenly Father God for a very special purpose on this earth. She was the firstborn child of Lester Lewis and Ruby Pearl (Jensen) Clark born on August 19, 1937, at Scottsbluff, NE. She fulfilled her numbered days on earth and graduated to heaven on December 30, 2024 at the age of 87.

During her childhood she lived in many small Southwest Nebraska towns that bordered the Burlington Northern Railroad line that her dad worked for. The railroad eventually brought her family to Dickens, NE. She attended high school in Wallace, NE. Her parents divorced and she then moved to  Minatare, NE with her mother and two younger sisters.

While living in Dickens she met a handsome cowboy named Herbert Leigh Karre. They were married in Scottsbluff, NE on January 31, 1956, and her family expanded fast as she gave birth to twin daughters, Connie Jo and Carol Lynn on September 26, 1956, at the Sutherland, NE hospital at the age of 19. She had a great surprise as she found out only two days before they were born that she was being blessed with "twins"! She spent her married life to Herb being a rancher's wife, homemaker, and a wonderful mother to her twin girls. They lived and worked on several ranches in southwest, northern, and western Nebraska living the western way of life, eventually moving to the North Platte area in 1972 and working for the Wesley Hansen ranch northwest of town, gaining many lifelong friends along the journey. Sharon also worked for North Platte Public Schools at Adams Jr. High in the cafeteria for a few years using her talented cooking skills. She also did babysitting for some special families as her own girls got older. For a few months she and Herb were blessed to take her young niece, Kristen Adams, age 2 at the time, into their home as Kristen's mother, Karen (Sharon's sister), was recovering from an illness. Kristen, to this day, still calls her "my second Mom and best friend". Later, in 1982, after her daughters were grown and married and starting families of their own, she and Herb divorced, but still remained friends. Tragically, on June 23, 1987, Herb's life was taken as a result of a ranching accident. She never remarried and neither did Herb.

Sharon was a member of the Eagles Club in North Platte, and for several years she was a member of the Salvation Army Church in North Platte. For the last four years she has alternated attending Valley Christian Church and North Platte Cowboy Church with her daughters and son-in-laws.

At an early age she received her eternal gift of salvation through Jesus Christ and was baptized with the Holy Spirit. She put her faith and trust in God and lived by His spoken words and commandments in the Bible. She prayed fervently and trusted God to help her through the hardships in her life and praised Him for all the blessings she received. She loved the Lord with all her heart and taught her daughters to love the Lord when they were young so they would also follow Him throughout their lives and pass it on to their children. She made sure she attended church frequently with the girls even though it was often several miles to town living out in the country. God blessed her with a long life, and with the exception of giving birth, she never spent a day in the hospital or never had a surgery! She never had a lot of worldly possessions or wealth but she had enough to share and she graciously gave of herself to bless and help others. She always made her home and all the people she knew feel welcomed and appreciated.

She loved getting "all dressed up" in her colorful outfits, but that's not all, as she also made sure her fingernails were painted, earrings, necklaces, rings, bracelets, or other jewelry were all selected  to coordinate with the clothes she was wearing. She would put on her makeup, curl the hair, and maybe add a hat (with sparkles) to complete the ensemble! She wanted to look good and maybe, because she loved to dance, might even two step to an oldies country song! She enjoyed sewing and made many clothes for the girls and herself, or she would frequent the thrift stores and "remake" clothes to her liking, often cutting fringe on a shirt to jazz it up!

She was the best cook ever! She entertained many relatives and friends over the years with a delicious home cooked meal topped off with homemade bread and a delicious dessert, almost always all made "from scratch". She was always prepared to offer a treat and a glass of iced tea or cup of coffee to anyone who may stop by her home. If not, she "whipped" one up! In the last several years she celebrated and honored her twin daughters on their shared birthday with one of those tasty meals, adding homemade ice cream and angel food cake with strawberries and whipped cream, their favorite, to the menu. She liked to garden and would reap the harvest canning and freezing in the fall to enjoy during the winter. She most definitely had the gift of hospitality!

One of Sharon's greatest gifts was her God given talent of playing the piano "by ear" which gave her so much joy and lots of fun times with music  shared with her family and friends as they sang and danced along to the peppy tunes. She also played the accordion, organ, and electric keyboard with the added sounds of a whole band playing with her then she'd really get things rockin'! Her music was also her ministry to many people playing her favorite gospel songs in church and entertaining the residents in area nursing homes with the Salvation Army Church. She later continued playing at the local nursing homes, the North Platte Senior Center, and several local events with "The James Gang", as they titled themselves, playing the old familiar country/western and classic rock and roll tunes, which the people eagerly sang along to and might even grab a partner and head to the dance floor. She could play just about any old hymn or traditional country music song she knew by heart. If she knew it and heard it, she could play it! She had the gift of music!

She was the greatest mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her legacy will live on through her family, her twin daughters, Connie (Rod) Kemper and Carol (Jeff) Rosenblad, all of North Platte, NE; her six grandchildren, Becky Kemper, of Omaha, NE, Candi (Ryan) Sellers, of Stratford, OK, Justin (Abby) Kemper, of North Platte, NE,  Marshall (Kalli) Rosenblad, of Rock Valley, IA, Cory (Bobbi) Rosenblad, of Elkhorn, NE, and Brady (Abby) Rosenblad, of Lexington, NE; her eleven adorable and beloved great grandchildren, Trey, Cort, Graem, Juniper, Makenzi, Kambri, Maxton, Jace, Hudson, Emersyn, and Henry; and her three "bonus" greats, Paige, Abel, and Brayden.

She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Verdena Clark Mustion, of North Platte, and step-sister, Creta Waltemath, of Kearney, NE; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins who she loved and cherished and was so thankful for the times she got to spend with them and the special memories of some of them spending several days of summer vacation through the years in her home; and last, but not least, all her valued friends and extended family.

Even though Sharon was the oldest, she mourned and endured the loss of her three younger siblings, her sisters, Arletta Jane "Janie" Miller, and Karen Sue Adams, and her brother, Nathan Louis Clark.  Also preceding her in death were her husband, Herb; her mother, Ruby Clark; father, Lester Clark; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harold and Nellie Karre; step-mother, Lola Clark; step-sister, Betty (McDermott) Halsey; step-brother, Larry Wilmeth; brothers-in-law, Arthur "Dick" Miller, and Robert Adams; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bob and Norma Karre.

Her kind, loving, spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, and we know beyond the shadow of a doubt that she was welcomed in the arms of Jesus to her new heavenly mansion to hear those words from her Savior, "Well done thy good and faithful servant", and she is reunited with her loved ones there already waiting for her and dancing on the streets of gold!

Honoring her wishes, cremation was chosen. A celebration of Sharon's life  will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2025 at Valley Christian Church.  The family asks that those in attendance dress in casual, brightly colored attire. Carpenter Memorial Chapel was entrusted with those arrangements.
