Velma Marie (Wilson) Walker of Maywood, NE, age 96, passed away on April 10, 2021 at North Platte, NE.
She was born February 15, 1925, at Culbertson, NE, the eldest of seven children to Dorsey and Lula (Gray) Wilson. She was united in marriage to Lenord L. Walker, June 7, 1943. To this union four children were born: Dixie, Judy, Larry, Rodney.
Velma was preceded in death by her husband Lenord on November 15, 1996, her parents, two brothers, two sisters, seven brothers-in-law, and seven sisters-in-law. She leaves to mourn her passing: daughter Dixie Higby and husband Velvin, Olympia, WA; daughter Judy Schultz and husband Arvene, Maywood, NE; son Larry Walker and wife Deborah, Kent, WA; son Rodney Walker and wife Kristine, North Platte, NE; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; one brother Darwin Wilson and wife Vona, Culbertson, NE; one sister, Sharon Felker, Granby, CO; one sister-in-law Norma Wilson, McCook, NE; one brother-in-law Jack Bishop, Culbertson, NE, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
She followed her husband in the military for five years; they lived on the Willow Creek place for three years, moved to the ranch west of Maywood in 1949, and retired into Maywood in 1974. Velma helped with the cattle, farming, and irrigation. She taught country grade school, young people's Sunday school, was a cosmetologist, a registered EMT, and worked in a nursing home. She loved to bowl and play cards, but love of family was always first and foremost.

Services will be held 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at the Carpenter Memorial Chapel, North Platte, NE, with Gary Smith officiating. A private family burial will follow at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, NE. The service will be livestreamed via the Carpenter Memorial Chapel Facebook page. Memorials are suggested to the Frontier County EMT's.
