Verna J. Spelts, 77, of North Platte, passed away February 24, 2017 at  Linden Court. She was born on September 28, 1939, to Dean and Daisy (BenBen) Fister in Grant, Nebraska. She graduated from Ogallala High School in 1958.  Verna was united in marriage to John W. Spelts on May 28, 1958 and was married for 54 years. She worked in the office at Northwestern Bell, The Ogallala Theatre and Good–all Co. in Ogallala. She also worked as a desk clerk at Ramada Inn in North Platte. Verna enjoyed her time as a room mother and teaching CCD classes. Verna was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John Spelts, her brother and a sister. She is survived by her son, Randall (Harriet) Spelts; her daughter, Julie (Kai) Nylander; grandchildren, Hilary, Molly and Michael Spelts and Ashley Nylander.  Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel.  Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with burial following at Fort McPherson National Cemetery.
