Virgil Harold Uhrmacher of North Platte was born April 11, 1944, in Hastings, NE to Raymond & Helen (Tanner) Uhrmacher.

Virgil grew up on the family farm near Cadams, NE. He attended grade school at Beach District 44 (east of Cadams) through the 8th grade and graduated from Superior High School with the class of 1962. He was proud to explain that the Beach School was now a part of the Nuckolls County Museum in Superior. He liked to add that he was the smartest student in his class. Then he would smile and explain that he was the only one in his class.

He was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hastings, NE and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church in Nelson, NE where he was a member for 40+ years.

Virgil was united in marriage to Peggy A. Bargen on February 11, 1968. This union was blessed with three children: Russell Gene, Julie Marie, and Jeffrey Alan. On February 14, 1992, he was united in marriage to Cheryl Mills Bowers. With this union he gained two sons, Jeremiah & Joshua.

Virgil made farming his life's work for many years. He served as a police officer in Superior, NE, and worked at Tennaco Automotive in Cozad, NE. He also served in the National Guard for 8 years.

Virgil enjoyed the outdoors and a special hunting trip to Alaska with his son Russ. He had a love for gardening and enjoyed maintaining and harvesting from it. He was a talented woodworker and created many pieces for the kids and grandchildren.

He will be remembered as an excellent and beloved husband, father, and grandfather and a friend to all.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Melvin & Darrell, sister Catherine and an infant sister.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Cheryl, Russell & Tina Uhrmacher, Julie & Tom Stevenson, Jeff & Stacie Uhrmacher, Jeremiah & Bobbi Bowers, Joshua & Stacey Bowers; grandchildren Tyler & Riley Uhrmacher, Zachary, Jordan & Madison Stevenson, Tré, Trinity & Isaiah Uhrmacher, Hudson, & Greyson Bowers and Jaxson Bowers; sister-in-law Barbara Uhrmacher; brother- in- law Terry (Dena) Mills, nieces, nephews and other relatives and a host of friends.

A book signing will be held at Carpenter Memorial Chapel from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. with family receiving friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church on November 22, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Bob Deardoff officiating. Burial will follow at the Arnold Cemetery will Full Military Honors from the Veterans Honor Guard with Pastor Lee Wonch officiating. Carpenter Memorial has been entrusted with the arrangements.
