Virginia L. Humphrey , 85, of North Platte, passed away Oct. 16, 2016 at her home.  She was born Aug. 17, 1931 to Richard and Edna (Johnson) Humphrey at Sutherland, NE.  Virginia graduated from North Platte High School with the class of "49".  She taught school in a one room classroom outside of Sutherland after graduation.  Virginia also was employed as a LPN, worked at the North Platte Library and FAA at the airport.  She is survived by her niece, Rachael Sabata of Omaha; nephews, Russell Ward of Georgia and Richard Ward of Florida; a great niece, Michelle Sharp of Omaha; numerous other great nieces and nephews; a cousin, Gordon Sanders of Cozad; and other relatives.  She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister and brother-in-law, Ardis (Elmer) Ward; and a nephew, Keith Ward.  Online condolences may be shared at www.carpentermemorial.com . As per Virginia's wishes a gathering of family and friends will be announced at a later date.  Private  burial will be at the Riverview Cemetery near Sutherland.  Carpenter Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
