IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Wesley "Wes"
A. Meyer
July 9, 1949 – January 28, 2025
Wesley "Wes" A. Meyer, 75, of North Platte passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at home surrounded by friends and loved ones.
Wesley was born July 9, 1949 in North Platte to Walter and Laura (Wolcott) Meyer.
He grew up in North Platte and graduated from North Platte High School in 1967. He went on to continue his education at MidPlains Junior College before transferring to the University of Nebraska at Lincoln for the remainder of his college. Around this time, Wes met his future wife Carol Muirhead, the love of his life. They were married June 7, 1970 and to this union was born their beloved children Thomas and Ronald. Slightly before the wedding, Wesley started his career as a Public Servant on May 20, 1970. He worked tirelessly to help North Platte and ended his 48 year career with the esteemed title of Public Service Director.
Though Wes was dedicated to his work, his words and actions always showed love for his family. They will forever hold his lessons and the moments they had with him, like their vacation to Mount Rushmore, in their hearts. Though he took his work and familial responsibilities very seriously, he always found time for his hobbies. Wes was an avid gardener and seasoned gambler. He could often be found tending his plants or blowing off steam at the casino.
Those left to cherish Wesley's memory are his wife Carol; children Thomas (Chris) Meyer of Maricopa, AZ and Ronald (Mandy) Meyer of Berthoud, CO; grandchildren Aura Meyer, Saleen VanPatten, Terek Meyer, Austin Chioda, Bromley Meyer, Geneva Meyer, and Cameron Meyer; great-grandchildren Elzay VanPatten and Luka Chioda; sister Roberta Barkeloo; brother Robert Meyer; nephews Blake Barkeloo and Bobby Meyer; niece Carrie Ritter; and many other relation and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Louise Gottfried and Eva MacDonald, and brothers Ronald Poe, Bill Savage, and Frank (Colleen) Savage.
Funeral Services will be held 12 p.m. on Monday, February 3, 2025, at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with Pastor Vaughn Fahrenbruck officiating. Burial will follow at North Platte Cemetery. A visitation will be held Sunday, February 2, 2025, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel which has been entrusted with arrangements.
