Woody M. Sheffield , 91, of North Platte, passed away January 18, 2018, at his home surrounded by family.

He was born on March 31, 1926, to Raymond and Hilda (Backer) Sheffield in Iliff, Colorado.  He was united in marriage to Marian E. (Poppen) Goforth  in Grand Island, Nebraska.  Woody enlisted in the Army and served during the Korean War. He worked as a diesel mechanic for fifty years, retiring in 2004. Woody was also a forty year member of the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Sheffield; daughter and son-in-law, Dianna (Bernard) Fay.

He is survived by his wife, Marian of North Platte; children,  Verlin D. Goforth, Justin L. (Cindy) Goforth ,  Mark E. (Vicki) Goforth , all of North Platte, Barbara J. (Dick) Royce of Cheyenne, WY, Edward J. (Sharon) Goforth of Grand Island, NE, Stuart O. Goforth, of Cheyenne, WY,  Kevin J. (Kathy) Goforth of Greeley, CO and Roger D. Sheffield of New Castle, CO; thirteen grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren, six great great grandsons; other family members and many friends.
